enable to configure ipaddress


dear all,
i m a newbie to linux rhel and i m using rhel 5.7 32 bits and i was configuring ip address on my desktop (hp elite 7500 mt),while configuring i am asking for network adapter name.i dnt know the name of the ethernet network adapter,so please need your help to sort out this problem.

I'm not familiar with RHEL but I'd expect your adapter name will be something like "eth0". To get an overview which network adapters are known to you machine, open a terminal window and execute "/sbin/ifconfig -a". You should see a list of your network interfaces together with a lot of information like packet counters etc. The names of the interfaces are printed in the first column.

hey just type ifconfig then you can find the network adaptor name of your system
and
ip link show
netstat -i
