Enable splash in grub
 

I have grub in it's own partition not tied to any particular OS, booting several different OS's. I would like to have my own custom splash image show up when i boot up, i have tried including the splashimage command with a custom image and with an image from one of the distro's. Just incase mine was wrong but nothing shows up. I saw somewhere that there is a patch i will need to run to enable grub to handle images but it wasn't clear and i haven't been able to get anything on the particular topic. Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

there are 2 essential things.....a stage 2 grub file that CAN handle splashimages and what ever image you have created, must be sufficiently downgraded in quality for grub to handle it.

1) so did your current grub ever handle the default splash image that came with your relevant distro?

2) list the contents of your /boot and the output of your /boot/grub/menu.lst pls

it contains an online converter....click on choose to upload your raw image and follow my guide on downgrading quality

Thanks for the links you provided i was able to solve ny problem after going through them. I used gparted and mepis grub files the first few times but they don't support splashimage even though on boot mepis has a slpash image. I got grub files from my fc7 and i was able to load graphics. Thanks again.
One funny thing though for some reason fc7 doesn't recognise the cmd grub. This is what i get "bash: grub: cmd not found" yet grub is installed. so i have to log of and run grub from another distro but that is ok as long as i know how to get around it.thank you again for your help.

before you run grub....did you remember to su to root?

any file can be made to be non-executable for normal users....this is the best thing about linux....no need to reply if I am right.

yes i run the command as root but it just gives me an error message at first i thought i needed o install grub but yum told me grub 0.97 all ready installed. I couldn't figure out what the problem was though all other commands run ok as root.
