enable spca5xx driver

Hi guys..

i want to enable spca5xx driver (creative-web cam)as a module without recompiling the kernel(on voyage 0.4.1 ),do you know how?-[my development platform is ubuntu 7.04 feisty-fawn]

i've recompiled using make-menuconfig,it takes about 3 hours, but it failed to boot.(i've been doing this many time)

is there other easier way to do this?

You waiting for 8.04 LTR before you upgrade?

Have a look at:
/usr/share/doc/gspca-source/README.Debian.gz

Normally you'd just compile the module, then modprobe it.

Note: gconfig is easier than menuconfig.

No, i'm not waiting for 8.04 LTR coz i'm afraid the kernel version will mismatch with voyage 0.4.1 (2.6.20-486-voyage).

to compile the module and use modprobe..i've search at google about loadable module and follow steps from this website (although it's for kernel 2.4):
http://linux-xfs.sgi.com/LDP/HOWTO/K...e_modules.html

Here is part of the Makefile at my "linux-source-2.6.20-voyage" directory:
# Use make M=dir to specify directory of external module to build
# Old syntax make ... SUBDIRS=$PWD is still supported
# Setting the environment variable KBUILD_EXTMOD take precedence
ifdef SUBDIRS
KBUILD_EXTMOD ?= $(SUBDIRS)
endif
ifdef M
ifeq ("$(origin M)", "command line")
KBUILD_EXTMOD := $(M)
endif
endif

so..how to write the gspca module correctly..near SUBDIRS part.the dir at "linux-source-2.6.20-voyage" is ubuntu/media/gspcav1/gspca*
