enable port inq


hello everybody,

i have mandrak9.2

from the "bash",
what command can i run to view ports that are running.
if itried 192.168.2.4 80 and it seem to work but
if i type telnet 192.168.2.4 its not connecting.
also tried telnet 192.168.2.4 25 and no connectiong.

so i need the command to view all the ports on linux and a way to enable the ports as well.. what file can i edit to enable ports

I'm sorry to tell you that ports don't run..they just don't do that!
But if you want to see all open ports on your machine, you can take any portscanner (eg. nmap) and scan localhost.

Is telnet running?
Check running processes with top or ps
Port 80 is usually a webserver

Use Mandrake Control Center. If telnet is installed go to services and select telnet to start at boot. There is also a button to start the service.

To start the service without a GUI then open up a console window. (This will start the service but will not configure to start at boot.)

service telnet start
