Empty map in nautilus but not in terminal?

Lucid 10.04 distro. On an ext usb hd I have 250Ǵ info in 6 directories. All directories are visible in terminal mode mod 755. All directories are visible in nautilus, all files are visible except in one directories which contains 200gig of videos.
A file search shows all in all directories. All files can be opened mv, cp etc. I can move a file from this directory to another and all is well.
In my Debian 5.05 distro with the same hd and directories etc, this problem does not occur.
No files are preceded with a . so we can rule out that.

Any ideas?

Can you, in a terminal, cd to the "Empty" directory and then list the files with ls ?

What filesystem is the external HDD formatted with? If it has a linux filesystem maybe you should run fsck on it?

*** Don't forget to unmount the drive/partition before you run fsck on it!

Yes I can cd to the "empty" directory and list the files with ls.
The external HDD has a ntfs file system.

OK
If map = directory then I am guessing that your native language is not english.
So, perhaps this is a character-set problem?

Maybe run the win equivalent of fsck on the ntfs partition?

Can you just create a new directory and copy all the "hidden" files there? If so, what happens?

Otherwise I am out of ideas, sorry.

Maybe also have a look at the properties of the directory which appears empty in Nautilus.
