Emails are downloaded but can't find them.

New user to Linux Mate 13. Tbird mail seems to be setup ok. Messages are downloaded but when I click on 'read messages' I get a note saying 'there are no new messages'. Where do I find the emails?

If you open thunderbird -> edit-> account settings -> server settings *for the account in question* it should give you the default local folder mail is saved to.
On mine, that's $HOME/.thunderbird/*.default/etc/etc/
You may also check "synchronization and storage" on the left panel to insure your copying anything to the local machine

Seems more likely that your not pulling mail down than thunderbird misplaced it. Have you tried to send yourself a message?

if that works, doesn't work, gives you access to alternate dimensions....please let us know, nobody else gets' smarter when you have a solution you wont share.

Thanks Dijetlo. Geting closer but not there yet.
My local directory is similar to yours, i.e., 'home/dennis/.thunderbird/pqmzi6ky.default. etc
I get an error message saying the Local Directory path "/home/dennis' is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory." Don't know how to do that.

I can send a message to myself and can find it as follows: I go to 'search for messages'> select my email account > inbox > select the 'clear' box > contains > I write out a keyword >search 'message found in inbox' select message and it will open in a new "inbox' window.

I guess my question now is how do I set up my inbox?

/home/dennis is your home directory!

Create a sub-directory and use that - it will avoid a lot of clutter in your home directory.

Hey Dennis,

Jeremy is right, btw.. though I kind of doubt Thunderbird is turning it's nose up at your $HOME directory for reasons of aesthetics....

This kind soul thinks your issue stems from a mismatch between the default path you've set in the preferences tab and on or more conflicting paths in your profile. His solution is to build a new profile.
Wanna give that a shot?

I removed and reinstalled Thunderbird. That solved the problem. Now my inbox is available/visible whereas prior to reinstalling it was greyed out and could not be accessed. Thanks for all of your ideas
