Email server problem.
Before I posted a thread about my email server problem where I can recieve emails but only send to some particular places e.g. gmail. The emails sent from my server to hotmail won't get recieved. Emails that I sent to my office account also automatically gets into the junk box.
So I went through all the configuring and thought maybe coz I didn't have a reverse DNS set to my domain. Now that I've got reverse DNS setup mapping my IP back to my hostname, my emails still either get to the junk box or not get recieved. So I was wondering what else could cause such a problem? .. |
well you've not even told us what software you're using, let alone provided actual config files and such, so i've no idea how you're expecting us to help...

Mail Server Configuration
I had the same problem with gmail putting into junk folder and i tried on 2 different qmail servers and sendmail. The issue is either with how gmail determines what is spam or how your server sends.
Gmail probably uses rf-ignorant rules for postmaster and abuse. ensuring my domain(s) had accounts that could receive mail into postmaster@ and abuse@ did the trick. also ensure you have PTR records set up correctly You might also check it is not listed in: Spamhaus Block List (SBL) Distributed Sender Blackhole List (DSBL) RFC-Ignorant: Bogus MX Spamhaus Exploits Block List (XBL) Spamhaus Policy Block List (PBL) Also check these but I'd never use them due to the risk of blocking everything, I know they would block hotmail for not playing by the rules. RFC-Ignorant: Abuse RFC-Ignorant: DSN RFC-Ignorant: Postmaster RFC-Ignorant: WHOIS SORBS Dynamic IP Address Ranges SpamCop Blocking List (SCBL) |
i can only send to gmail. hotmail doesnt recieve anything nor my office email. for my office email it auto puts the mail into junk box.
funny thing is in web mail when i use the REPLY function to reply email to my hotmail, the email gets back to my hotmail. If i use the compose button to create a new email to hotmail, hotmail wont recieve it. |
Could well be an IP issue. I'd guess that either your IP is on some spam blacklist or you don't have revers DNS set up. The easiest way around this issue is to relay mail through your ISPs mail server. Look at "relayhost" in /etc/postfix/main.cf
