Email attachment handling

My problem environment: I have two different distributions that are Debian based and have the Mate desktop environment. My browser is Firefox, and if I receive an email to either an AOL or Yahoo web mail account and the mail has an attachment containing a .doc file, when I attempt to open it, my only option is to save it. ALL other file types except .doc allow me to either open it or save it. I do not get this behavior in any other Linux system that I try. If there is anyone out there who can duplicate the environment outlined above, I would love to know your experiences and observations as related to my problem. My wish is that when I click on the attachment to have the choice of opening or saving it, not just the save option.
Thank you, rmockler

Hi

what you are looking for as I don't use in midori is option called "always ask"

I will take the opposite view to show how to get a download to auto open abiword (or what ever you use Libreoffice etc)

1) an installed app that you can use....I use abiword for doc files

2) a setting to recognise doc app to use

sometimes its called a mimelist but a screenshot of how to use FF might be the way to go?

Thanks for the suggestion, tried it exactly the way you showed, but it didn't work. It behaved the same as before, only option is to Save the attachment.

EDIT

I just install midori to have a look

I can't see any option that is available in FF

sorry to have wasted your time
