Question emacs


I have emacs on a cd, and I want to install it on my computer which runs debian, I am a newbie and have no idea how to do this.

What does the emacs on your CD look like?

I mean, what file format is being used?
rpm, deb, tgz?

i downloaded it and burned it to cd, i dont have access to it right now but im pretty sure it was .deb
