edquota command dont want to set values through editor

Hi all..
i am using edquota -u <username> command.
I want to bypass the vi editor and set values for edquota command.
Is it possible to set them from a temporary file instead of editing the values through editor and saving file..
this is beacuse i want to execute the edquota command (through system(edquota))from a 'C' program or a script..

thanks in advance..
