Editing yum.conf

I'm using Fedora Core 1.

I replaced the yum.conf file with the one from this website: http://fedorafaq.org/faq/samples/yum.conf

I cannot seem to connect to any of the servers though.

Do the mirrors change that frequently that I need an updated yum.conf file?

Thank you for any help.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I replaced my yum.conf file with yours and when I run yum update I receive the following:

Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Test Linux 2.6-test prerelease kernels for RHL9/rawhide
retrygrab() failed for:
http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/headers/header.info
Executing failover method
failover: out of servers to try
Error getting file http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/headers/header.info
[Errno 6] ERROR: Url Return no Content-Length - something is wrong

I'm behind a proxy server but I'm able to access the Net just fine with Mozilla. Is there something I need to put in the yum.conf file to indicate the presence of a proxy server?

# Comment out any servers that are not functioning or you do not want to use. E.g.

Replace
Quote:
[2.6testkernels]
name=Test Linux 2.6-test prerelease kernels for RHL9/rawhide
baseurl=http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/
With
Quote:
#[2.6testkernels]
#name=Test Linux 2.6-test prerelease kernels for RHL9/rawhide
#baseurl=http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/
I recommend commenting out any testing rpms. These are not final and may cause your system some troubles. When you get more confident, re-add these servers in you your yum updates.

I commented out the sections that had test between the [ ]'s and the Livna-Unstable servers as well but I'm continuing to get this message:

[root@nbmas-mccr2k belkins]# yum update
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Livna Stable
retrygrab() failed for:
http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/1/i386/y...rs/header.info
Executing failover method
failover: out of servers to try
Error getting file http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/1/i386/y...rs/header.info
[Errno 6] ERROR: Url Return no Content-Length - something is wrong

It seems as if it's randomly picking servers on which to fail.

I get the error message IMMEDIATELY after executing "yum update"

I believe I do need to add the proxy configuration to the yum.conf file.

This is what I did in the [main] section:

[main]
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest
distroverpkg=fedora-release
tolerant=1
exactarch=1
http_proxy=http://MyProxyServer:8080

Does this look correct?

Thank you.
