Editing sudoers (shows as new file in nano)

How do I correctly edit the sudoers file?

I have tried nano /etc/sudoers (it says it's a new file)
I thought this was an existing file.

Thanks
Using Debian

Also: When I enter 'visudo' Command not found

I sounds like you don't have the sudo package installed. It should supply both /etc/sudoers and /usr/sbin/visudo. You should use "visudo" to edit the sudoers file. It performs error checking.

Thanks

Thanks, I thought that was just installed by default. I did do a basic install (network install).
