editing linux program

Does any one know if there is a 'edit c'ommand (not vi) to edit linux program. I used it once but I have forgotten the actual comand. it is 'edit' with a prefix or a suffix. this command will bring you to a GUI window and you can actually edit the program using the mouse etc just like you can do in a word document. I just cant find this command anywher on web site. if anyone remembers this command please share.

You're just looking for a graphical text editor? There are a ton of them. gedit is probably the one you're referring to, but there's also emacs and many others.

This will depend on the distribution you installed, and which DE/WM it came with.
