Post editing hostname under redhat 9.0

I was able to install redhat 9.0 (after failed attempts at installilng gentoo 1.4 and redhat 7.3) and am having difficulty changing the hostname from localhost to what I want to name my computer. I tried simply using the "hostname computername" command, but this did not do it. I then edited the /etc/hosts file and rebooted; same thing. When I log in via GUI into Gnome, I get an error saying cannot find computername; you should add localhost@localhost to the /etc/hosts file. Any ideas?

If you are on DHCP you should just have a line like:

127.0.0.1 snerfu localhost
or
127.0.0.1 snerfu localhost.localdomain

in your /etc/hosts, That should be enough to clear up any Gnome errors.

I'm guessing snerfu is his hostname...
Did the /etc/sysconfig/network file modification do anything for you? You will also need the entry in /etc/hosts like you modified earlier...
