EDID values differ from Monitor size and spec

I have a Sony 23" wide screen Bravia TV. I think that some of the EDID values are wrong but Sony are not being very communicative on their tech forum. The values are as shown by ViewSonic's EDID editor. Are some of these values wrong? How can I override the values when installing Linux? How do I get Linux to choose "descriptor block 2"? What other options are there? The Linux X display presents miniscule fonts in some apps and drop down menus even after resizing desktop fonts. I get wrong aspect ratio of 1024x768.
All suggestions gratefully received.
