Edac error

Hey, im new to linux but i like it very much. recently built decent computer and put Mint 10 on it. every thing works fine but get a strange message after i install the driver for nvidia video card. Message is an edac error "device not found" E7xxx. ??? Not sure of any of it. System still works fine. Graphics are working great. Also the linux mint boot screen changed to some generic looking screen that says Linux Mint 10 in an old dot matrix type format. If anyone could help it would be great. Here's what I have:

Tyan i7501 s2735
(2) 2.4 Xeon cpu's
320 gb seagate hd
2gb ram
8400 GS Geforce 512mb video card

I was getting error similar to that 1 but I had my Ecc enable for memory in bios.
My memory doesn't support ecc.

I have a server board, so my mem is ecc. This stuff can be really confusing. Guess I need to read more. It doesnt interfere with anything but getting the message makes me think something is wrong somewhere..???

Where did you see the error? What was the full text of it? One possibility is that the EDAC module is built into the kernel and EDAC hardware either does not exist or is not enabled.

the error appears just near the end of the 4 intermitting green dots on splash screen.

(error device not found- device...8086....vendor...0x2541 (broken bios?))

i recently installed Mint 8 Helena, and have no problems at all. Only time this happens is with Mint 10, Mint Debian, and Ubuntu 10.10. At least as far as I know. Is it because those distros are newer??? I would really like to use Mint 10. I liked it rather well but guess I'll stick with Helena. Everytime I try to install Isadora (9); during the first partition (ext4) gparted stops and says cannot format linear partition. Don't understand that either. My hd will be wore out by the time i'm done installing and erasing. Thank you all 4 tryin to help me. gets a little aggravating at times. i learn fast, im just new at this. been stuck in windows for the last 20 years. Shouldve switched earlier.

I'm really new to this also, so there isn't much help that I can give you.
There are people monitoring these threads at all times, so someone will see that you're in need of assistance and will respond.

That looks like a PCI report. 8086 is intel. Given that it is a new top quality motherboard you could ask Tyan. Similar issue here. AFAIK the EDAC module only adds ECC reporting ability -- any corrections are done in hardware -- so the value it adds is allowing you to know that error rates are increasing as early warning of memory failure. That only has a high value for high-availability systems. Useful summary of ECC information here.
