Talking Easy, Where is initd log file?

I am having trouble finding the initd logfile. there are two services that are failing to start. I can't see what it is because they go away to fast. So... where can I find the log file? thanks for the help!

You can stop the messages scrolling by hitting ctrl-s (it continues again with ctrl-q).
Also shift-pgup and shift-pgdown should scroll the contents of the screen in the console.

Logs of the individual services go to /var/log/syslog in debian and (If I recall correctly) /var/log/messages in RH.
