Easy access to the Internet

Hi!

I've used this forum to configure my Mandrake 9.0 so that I can connect to the Internet. It works fine when I use the long way of activating the mandrake control center, typing in the administrator's password etc.

Isn't there a shorter and easier way to do things ? How can I create a shortcut on the desktop, for instance that will do all this for me in one mouse click ?

Thanks in advance
Nir

Very newbie

hi

Sorry, I might belong to the "very newbie" forum (if it exists). What are you asking ?

So your saying your trying to make the mandrake accessible from your desktop, and you don't want to keep typing in your root passowrd for it?

No, what I would like is to create some short and convenient way of reaching the internet, let's sya from the desktop, without having to go to the control center (which requires the root password and is very long).

Ok why does it require you to go to the control center?

You should just be able to just launch your dialer eg. KPPP, and connect then load up a browser or whatever you usually do...

more info please

AS I understand it, the only way to activate kppp in mandrake 9.0 is through the control center. I haven't been able to make it run any other way. Do you knwo of any other way ?

I am not familiar with mandrake 9.0, but you should be able to just right click on your desktop, select new, then create a shortcut, name that shortcut 'kppp' or 'internet dialer' whatever you choose, then, right click on that icon and you can browse for the kppp exectuable, or enter 'kppp' as the command...

This is by my memory and mdk 8.2, though much shouldn't of changed in this process...

Good luck

Well, the problem is that the kppp command is not recognized (at least when I try it from the command line).

Open up mandrake rpm manager, i'm guessing it's still 'rpmdrake'? check if kppp is installed (it should be) well uninstall it, and re-install it, this time take note where the executable is installed to and the name of it.
