EA Games for linux is possible VOTE !

To: EA Games
We, the Linux gaming community are feeling alienated by companies that, in face of huge demand for our choice of operating system, still refuse to provide proper client-side ports for major games.
Although this petition is focused primarily towards EA Games, (who became a powerful force in gaming due to their commitment to providing native ports to a variety of operating environments) the writer of this petition also believes that such companies as Blizzard (who delibrately SHUT DOWN an open source native port project for some of their games, which did not infringe on their intellectual property, called freecraft) deserves special mention.
This petition aims to make the following points:
1. Emulation is not a native port, and native ports are what is required by the linux-driven consumer.
2. Our numbers and buying power are great enough to warrant such projects as a transition from directx to opengl, for instance.
3. We believe we are the future, and this is an offer to make peace with this community, before we are further alienated, and you really need us to stay in business.
4. Native server ports without client side ports are offensive, and unacceptable.
5. We are no longer willing to run a Windows machine, or buy a gaming console just to be able to play games. (Thanks to the insight of such companies as Atari, among others, we don't have to)
Thankyou for reviewing this petition.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

well there seem to be some sports games on linux, however EA games have better graphics..

Votin or singin petition may be reviewed by EA managers but mostly they count sold titles when deciding for support. And Linux love free software.. that is what EA should also take knowlede of.

Considering a lot of these Companies still do not port games (all/most/some) to Mac (tho Blizzard notable does) what has a higher home computer presence then Linux, I wouldn't get the hopes up too high on this one. More so given that Windows and Mac are fairly standardized and Linux is not (IE there a hundreds on top of hundreds of varying distributions); What from a game writing point of view is fairly... bad. I know some games have had Linux Game Clients (IE UT2004) but in the long run I think for the vast majority of companies, the effort required to ensure it actually works in at least several more main stream distributions, at minimum, is just financially not worth it... I find it interesting that people tend to forget that such games usually take money to make and either that game needs advertisement or has to be paid for by being sold... while advertisements can raise revenue... they generally do not raise enough to even begin thinking about making a modern day game as we see them today... so that only leaves the purchasable games at this level.

Unless a specific standardized gaming platform actually came out for Linux that made such development easier I do not see any reason why most game companies would want to port games to Linux unless it is going to be a worthwhile venture in terms of the money aspect... and as far as games go I just don't think Linux in it's current format is at all worthwhile for producing such games for. I wonder if this really is as legitimate petition as it is just a rant about Windows having something that Linux doesn't... what when Mac barely gets a taster when is more suitable then Linux too. So I would conclude, if you want games companies to make games for Linux, at least offer a platform or solid set of standards for them to write them too... and I do not mean saying, "here is GCC and openGL", because different distributions still do things, again, in different ways.

P.S. As for Blizzard, their main compliant was over the name "freecraft" what is a pretty close resemblance to two of their main titles... warcraft and starcraft, also the project went out in some part to replicate these games; More so ideas/aspects from warcraft... thus the complaint you mentioned was valid on Blizzard's part. The project was not stopped by this, just forced not to infringe on the naming and ideas taken from blizzard games... to note it was renamed Stratagus.
