Are you sure you typed in the command correctly? I clearly see the downloads folder. Try the command again.

If it still doesn't work type: ls downloads and confirm that it shows the file vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-2.0.beta3-ALL-i386-installer.run in there.

First you will need to reboot your acer then when you come back to the desktop you can either use the entry in your internet menu to run the modem application or do Alt & F2 then type: vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux.

When you ran the installer did it not ask for valid users? At that point you should have typed root as the user. Re-run the installer and input that user name, then reboot and try again.

All done. After Alt & F2 and type: vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux,
it prompt for new profile. I gave a profile name, username and password and leave the rest as default,
cld not connect to internet think i have to contact my service provider. usually it is plug and play so no need to configure. If u can advise wld be better, as i think service provider wld not be able to assist if i tell them is running on linux. If not, then i like to thanks u now for the patience and all the advice you have given me.

It could be that in winblows the software configures the other settings it needs to connect. Sorry that's as far as I can take this. I don't see why your provider shouldn't help, they do provide a driver for GNU/Linux therefore I would expect they should have some advice for you. Just let them know you have successfully installed the driver and input your details but you get no connection. In the instructions from that website, that user disconnected his modem and rebooted, then reconnected his modem. I don't know if that makes any difference, but it's worth a try.
