Dynamic icons don't appear

Hello everyone. This is my first topic here at linuxquestion.org!!!

I know that this question has been through on and on, but it never works with me. My last chance of getting it to work is this forum! I already looked all over the internet and nothing worked.

Ok... here it goes

Whenever I plug a usb pen-drive, or insert a CD, I would like to see an icon appear on my Desktop. And when I remove this device, the icon disappears also.

That doesn't happen!! I'm using Debian-BR-CDD (Customized Debian Distro based on Debian Sarge) with KDE 3.4.1, kernel 2.6.8.

In KDE's Control Center (I don't know why) it doesn't appear the device icons tab!! When I click on an empty spot on my Desktop, and create this device icon, it doesn't work at all!

I've done many other things as well!
Help me please!!

Thanks!

I have a similar problem if I try and download something to my desktop. It doesn't appear on the desktop but if I go in the terminal and browse to the folder it is there.

I run FC4 w/ Gnome
