Question dvgrab installation troubles involving libquicktime

Hi,

A few days ago I installed dvgrab 1.5 on my Mandrake 10.0 pc. I tried running it from the command line as follows:

dvgrab --format dv2 myvideo

Then it gives me this error:

dvgrab: error while loading shared libraries:
libquicktime.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So I tried installing libquicktime and then tried this again and I still get the same error. I have no idea what's going on. I'm actually a newbie to Linux and am already anxious to start editing videos. Can you believe it?

Thanks,

John

Do locate libquicktime.so.0.0.0; it should be under /usr/lib.

If you have /usr/lib/libquicktime.so.0.0.0, then (as root) do:

ln -s /usr/lib/libquicktime.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libquicktime.so.0

I tried locate libquicktime. Went into the /usr/lib directory, and it turns out I have libquicktime.so.0 in there, but it's actually just a shortcut to libquicktime.so.0.0.0 which does not exist.

So I tried reinstalling the libquicktime rpm but it says it's already installed. Sure doesn't look like that to me!

I'm not a Mandrake user; the solution I posted is the one I use for Knoppix.

Where did you get your libquicktime rpm? Also, did you try using urpmi to install libquicktime?

I think my problem has to do with the dependencies required for libquicktime. Here's the whole printout. Look how long this list is. Where do I get all this stuff anyway?

Code:
[root@localhost Linux-RPMs-and-stuff]# rpm libquicktime0-devel-0.9.2-1mdk.i586.rpm -Uvh
error: Failed dependencies:
        libquicktime0 = 0.9.2-1mdk is needed by libquicktime0-devel-0.9.2-1mdk

Update - 10 PM May 16

Well I searched around and managed to download and install most of the aforementioned RPMs. Whew!!! Now when I try to run dvgrab I get a different error. Something is happening. Whether good or bad I don't know.

Code:
[root@localhost root]# dvgrab --format dv2 myvideo
dvgrab: error while loading shared libraries: libdv.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
If anyone can help before I mess up something big time I would appreciate it.
