dvd rom drive won't mount under FC14 after installing from dvdrom drive

no entries exist in the /dev folder for hdc, cdrom, dvd, or any other drive or drive type than hda. The only other similar device is sg0 which doesn't work either. I have tried every variation of mount I can find with every available drive and drive type and nothing works, but this is the drive I installed FC14 with, and it installed perfectly (except for forgetting where it came from!!)Do I have to install a module or recompile the kernel just to get linux to recognize the drive it came from??

Put the installation disc back in and wait a few seconds. An icon will appear on your desktop. All cd/dvds are auto-mounted under /media

Thanks for the replies. This one was a little odd, and I found it myself last night. There was a zip drive (!00meg disks, magnetic media)on the same ribbon as the dvd drive, which is no problem in DOS/Windows environments, but seems to totally confuse Fedora. Removing the drive removed the problem, but this raises another question. Can the zip drive (IDE connection, internal drive ) be used in a linux environment? It was jumpered in properly and worked under windows, so what is different?

for an older IDE box i would install CEntOS 5.6
or Scientificlinux 6.1

fedora 14 and 15 are a bit "too cutting edge" for the older hardware .

How did you have them jumpered?

Try it both ways.
Make one master and one slave.
Make them both cable select.

dmesg | less
recognize that the drive was there?
