DVD R/W mall functioned..

I tried to write some thing (1.7gb) in a brand new (moser baer) DVD RW in Ubuntu8.1 using brasero disk burning utility. It wrote the file, but when i tried to see the files i could not. Then i tried to erase the disk to write a fresh file, but it is telling some error in detecting the disk. How can i format the disk(even i tried to erase using nero in windows but in vein.. how can I re-use my new dvd rw?
