DVD+R DL burning from Image

Background
I've backed up some of my DVDs onto a removable harddrive, and now I would like to burn new copies of some of them (So I can play the copy, and keep the original in pristine condition). Now, this isn't a problem for the regular DVD's (the movies, mostly) but the DVD's from a TV show (Scrubs - GREAT show) are on dual layer DVDs (The image is 7.7GB)
System Specs
Processor: AMD64 3000+
Memory: 1GB Corsair DDR
Drives:
--> hda - 80GB Seagate HDD
--> hdb - 120GB Seagate HDD
--> hdc - Plextor 740A DVD Burner
--> hdd - CompUSA DVD Drive
OS: RHEL4 ES

Problem
When I insert one of the brand new DVD+R DL discs into the drive, it doesn't show on the desktop as "Blank DVD-R" like it normally does if I insert a blank DVD disc. Instead, it says "CD-ROM Disc". At first, I didn't think anything of this, but, despite my best efforts, I can't burn an image to the disc. I have tried different discs and different image files, but it refuses to work...

Tests
Single Layer DVD Disc Tests
--> I successfully burned a DVD image ( 2.5 GB ) onto a single-layer DVD
--> I successfully burned a CD image onto a single-layer DVD
Double Layer DVD Disc Tests
--> I was unable to burn a DVD image ( 7.7 GB ) onto a dual-layer DVD
|------> I double-checked the integrity of the image, it was ok.
|------> I unsuccessfully tried a different double-layer DVD.
--> I was unable to burn a DVD image ( 2.5 GB ) onto a dual-layer DVD
--> I was unable to burn a CD image onto a dual-layer DVD

Outputs
Original try with dvdrecord:

Does anyone have any idea what I should do, or at least what is going wrong? Thanks so much, I really appreciate it.

Just wondering have you tried as root from command line
"/usr/bin/growisofs -dvd-compat -Z -dry-run /dev/hdc=/path/to/image.iso"

If it works, remove -dry-run and let her rip. Issue "man growisofs" for more
information on this.
