Question dvd on laptop


hello,
i am running ubuntu 14.04. and tried to see a dvd on my laptop - doesn't work -> so what is the best way??

i tried to download libdvdread4 -> system tells me: it is already there -> but doesnt work at all - is there something to do to get libdvdread4 executed??

You need some decoding libs like libdvdcss and a player like vlc.

well WHAT is this unknown DVD?
a store bought movie?
a self burned movie ( if so what format? )
a DATA storage DVD?
a iso image DVD?
WHAT???????

Hello Birne,

How do you access the laptop DVD? Directly double click or other ways?

Could you please try "mount" in the command line to see the output if there is a dvd mounted.

For libdvdread4, if you are sure the name is right, please use which to check the command full path like:

which libdvdread4

And execute the full path if it is a binary file.

Well, if you want to see a movie, you may as well download some good video player like VLC to play the video.

Guessing that it might be a commercial video, the link below might help. Posting answers to the above questions would go a long way toward getting help. "Doesn't work" doesn't tell us much.
