DVD Drive question

I've been using Linux now for about six months, but I just switched over to Kubuntu the other day and I have a total noob question...I know that my DVD burner is working because I have used k3b and done some burning. However, I can't seem to read any discs. When I put in a disc shouldn't it just automatically mount it so that when I go into dolphin or whatever I can access it? Or am I just too stupid?

Depending on how you have things setup, yes, it should auto mount.

Have you checked the cdrom and cdrom0 directories in /media?

Have you tried to manually mount it? (I'm trying this from memory.. but something like: sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom -t udf).

Will it automount with a CD-ROM, but not a DVD-ROM? If that's the case it might somehow be faulty.

No, it doesn't mount anything. I went and checked the directories, nothing there, thats what I couldn't figure out. I am going to go try to mount it manually and see what happens.

EDIT: No, when I try to mount it from a shell, it just hangs there, no feedback, no light on the drive, nothing at all.

Ok, first keep in mind that you do not mount a device but a file system. You cannot mount empty media or for that matter music cds(regular music cds do not have a FS).

Show us exactly (copy and paste) how you are trying to mount the cd/dvd.
