dumb mac/linux question
hey i just got this old imac from my friend and i have no idea how to use Mac OS i was thinking about putting linux on the machine if it is possible
does anyone know a good linux live cd for this type of machine so i can see how well it works ? this is what i know about the machine version Mac OS 9.2.2 built in memory 320 virtual memory 321 use on MrMax |
It's called PPC in linux. I would suggest yellowdog, since they specialize in Mac crap.

Try the live CD of Ubuntu and see how it works. I have tried it before making a final installation on the Mac and it is working fine.

No question is dumb!
Anyway I think Yellowdog would be great on PPC! Here's a link: http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=yellowdog |
installing now
will let you all know how it ends |
If you've got the cash for it, OSX would run on the machine... you seem to want a unix system for some reason, maybe you should try it?

well the iMac monitor just went haywire and its all fuckkked up now so i am just going to throw it away and stick with what works x86

Interesting solution.
Sounds like the situation I ran into when I was trying different resolutions on various monitors. The image that Linux was pushing wasn't compatible with the monitor I had attached. |
