dual monitor & su problem
 

i'll start with a quick apology in regards to the level of my knowledge.
i've fixed a couple of things with help here, and from browsing, but my skills are still very very noob.. :$ i'm learning heaps, but its cut & paste knowledge mostly...

the first problem is that i cannot use the SU command in the terminal. i believed i had added myself to the SU group; not in a file, through the config panel.. but when i put in my password to do an SU command, it tells me i'm going to be reported :( it's my computer, so that's all good ;)

the second i need some pretty simple info. i was told there were two video cards in the computer i installed linux on, and i am getting a second screen in the morning. i have been looking over the posts relating to this, but i can't seem to get my head around them. i can understand what's going on if once someone explains it, but linux is quite confusing :D

any help would be great! i'd love it if someone would be able to tell me what i'm actually doing as well as some directions..

i'm pretty sure the computer's a p3, and it's got elive gem installed on it (which is beautiful!), but i don't really know that much about it.

Hello.

When you use su you are needing to type in roots password, unless you are using sudo and then you need to be added to the sudoers list. Be careful issuing commands as root, very very powerful account and if you say you are cutting and apsting alot, bad things can happen (as far as making your system temporarily unusable and/or security issues).

The two video card thing I am not too sure about other than look at the back and see if there is a second vga adapters.

Dual display support is pretty solid with Nvidia, not real sure about ATI/Intel.

I've set up a couple dual display PC's, but have always done it with 1, Dual Head card, never two cards. See what type of cards they are before getting really involved in figuring it out, as thats gonna be a big part of it. I imagine if, for example, 1 were Nvidia, and 1 were ATI, it would be fairly difficult. If both were either Nvidia or ATI, it would probably be easier.
