Dual Head in Fedora 3
 

I just installed Fedora Core 3 yesterday and I'm loving it, runs great. I'm currently in KDE 3.3 and I have two video cards with two monitors. I noticed that there is an option in the display settings to enable dual head (unlike RH9) and it loads my second video card correctly, tells me the proper settings and everything. I go to choose my monitor type and press ok and it does nothing. I can click ok a billion times and it won't change anything. Any suggestions on what I should look into? Should I download an updated version of the nvidia drivers? I also ran a full udpate right after I installed, so everything should be updated.

The cards I'm using are:
nVidia Corporation NV25 [GeForece4 Ti 4400] (primary) - w/ Dell 2000FP (Analog) at 1600x1200
nVidia Corporation NV34 Geforce FX 5200 (secondary) - w/ Gateway VX1110 (Analog) at 1600x1200

I'd like to be able to span the desktops to the second monitor (not run the same image on the second monitor) like I do in XP pro. Any help you can give is much appreciated. If there is another thread depicting this information for Fedora Core 3 I apologize and please direct me to that. Thank you.

Have you restarted X? X will only read the configuration at start up, and this sort of change requires you to restart it. Either reboot, the M$ way of initializing, or push Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart X.

ive had this problem too acctually, i was on core 2, but when i clicked the ok button nothing happened, not even writing to xorg.conf. when that happens, it pops up with a dialog box assuring you it has been done, but i dont think (s)he got that

what worked for me was to turn off X and then run system-config-display from the prompt and that worked well.

Alright, so just say exit into runlevel 3 and run the system-config-display command from there? I'm assuming that failsafe terminal isn't sufficient. Thanks for the help guys, it's much appreciated.

Alright well I tried that and it's still doing the same thing, just keeps letting me hit okay a million times. I haven't touched any of the display drivers yet, I can't seem to get the nVidia drivers working properly. Maybe that could be causing it? Any other suggestions on what I can try? update to system-config-display-1.0.24 from one of the fedora rpm sites or get the latest xorg version (6.8??) via up2date and the OK button should start working. I'm not sure how well FC3 is dealing with dual monitor support, I'm having big probs with a dual output card.

Make sure you back up your xorg.conf - I didn't & had to do a re-install!
