dual booting win98 & rh : possible problem if upgrading windows?

hi all.
i'm just wondering if there could possibly be a problem if i upgrade my dual-booting PC from win98 to, say, winxp; the other os will remain at rh9. i've read problems about installing windows AFTER linux; is there gonna be the same problem during upgrade of windows?
thanks in advance
yanie

Actually you can do it this way:
Install grub/lilo into the partition bootsector instead of the MBR, and set it to active(bootable).
When you need to install/reinstall windows which will change the active partition to itself, you just need to set it back to your /boot partition afterwards.

Yep, what Demonbane says. Another solution is (after a new Windows install messes up your dual boot) to use a LiveCD or Linux boot disk to restore LILO to the bootable partition or MBR.

AFAIK, yes, any new Windows installation is going to trash whatever it is that makes your computer dual-boot. It doesn't play nice with other OSes But it's fairly easy to fix.
