Dual booting problem - linux and windows XP
Hi, I hope someone can provide some guidance with this problem...
I had a dual booting system with XP and Mandrake 10.1 Community and could boot into either OS no problem. I replaced Mandrake with Suse 9.1 Pro and was able to boot into linux but when I tried to boot XP I got this message: Booting 'windows' root (hd0,0) Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7 chainloader +1 I reinstalled Mandrake but still get this message when trying to enter windows. I assume the Suse installation somehow changed the windows partition file system definition (I'm not expert so I've no idea why). I heard about the 2.6 kernel dual boot problem and tried a fix given in a magazine but that hasn't succeded in solving the problem. Can anybody advise me how to retrieve the windows partition and boot into windows again please?! Thanks for any advice. |
supervillain; apparently overlooked while
reinstaling suse. as u stated it may have repartitioned space so best advice is to repatition with third-party software, that way mistakes are avoided. or pay close attention in reinstalling with-out leaving to do some thing else. linux is speedy & has to be closely attended & watched every step. second by second. |
Thanks, maybe i'll just start from scratch and reinstall everything. I haven't had much luck with linux so far.
