Dual Boot - XP and Mandrake 2006 - How?

Hi All
Dell 4500S
Primary IDE HD - XP Pro
Secondary IDE HD - Mandrake 2006 and DVD/CDRW

When I boot the pc it brings up a menu offering me Linux
Failsafe
Windows

Choosing Linux fails and returns me to the menu.
Choosing Windows brings up Xp.

Any help on how to make this senario work is greatly appreciated.

Hello,
You need to put correct paths for Linux in Your grub.conf file.for that you need to boot with a rescue cd and mount your Linux partition(Perhaps Mandriva 1st CD may have options) and edit your /boot/grub/grub.conf or menu.list.sometimes chances are you may have messed the Linux Patn number if you reinstalled WinXP.if u r fret with rescuing with boot cd,use a live CD and as root edit the hdd mounted partitions /boot/grub/grub.conf and correct the:
title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.12-10-686-smp (recovery mode) (on /dev/sda11)root (hd0,10)
kernel {this line} /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-10-686-smp root=/dev/sda9 ro single
initrd {this line} /boot/initrd.img-2.6.12-10-686-smp
savedefault
boot
for your current partn information open a terminal and type
Code:
fdisk -l

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I will give that a try. In the senario you described the Mandrake install onto the second hard must have screwed the number up because it never prompted me. Unless I was supposed to change it manually all along.
