Dual boot problem
There're Linux and Dos for me to choose when I boot from my linux hdd, Linux is the default one alright, but when I choose Dos, 'loading Dos...' appears and does nothing else, something wrong with my bootloader?
What I've for my /boot/grub/grub.conf: Using lilo, redhat 8.0 # grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg. # root (hd0,0) # kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/hda2 # initrd /initrd-version.img #boot=/dev/hda default=0 timeout=10 splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-14) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-14 ro root=LABEL=/ initrd /initrd-2.4.18-14.img title DOS rootnoverify (hd1,0) chainloader +1 |
before installing pl. check the system is booting dos alone. i think there is no problem in grub.conf file. otherwise if you suspect that the boot loader is the problem try login to linux and run lilo -v this will replace the grub boot loader with lilo then try....

This is what I got from running lilo -v
LILO version 21.4-4, Copyright (C) 1992-1998 Werner Almesberger 'lba32' extensions Copyright (C) 1999,2000 John Coffman Reading boot sector from /dev/hda Merging with /boot/boot.b Mapping message file /boot/message Boot image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-14 Mapping RAM disk /boot/initrd-2.4.18-14.img Added linux * Boot other: /dev/hdb1, on /dev/hdb, loader /boot/chain.b Fatal: open /dev/hdb1: No such device erm i guess the link to my xp hdd is wrong? how do i change that? |
pl. give me the hardisk size and partition information and what are the operating system is intalled in your hardisk. i aslo want to know how many hardisks are present in your system. for linux the hardisk must be connected as primary master before installing linux. so give me the actual configuration of your hardisk.
