dual boot on both ide channels

guru input would be appreciated on whether it is feasible to use my
secondary ide channel to duplicate my primary channel dual boot win98+
linux disk. i have no problem xxcopying the win98 over, but copying
the linux (i used dd) after fdisking identical partitions leaves me unable
to cleanly boot my orig. disk while the secondary is physically connected.
i get all sorts of error messages while booting linux - i seems as though
the primary disk boot process is unable to ignore the secondary disk.

Can you post some error messages?

One issue is that RH uses volume labels to identify the different partitions. When you have multiple partitions with the same name RH does not know which to use.

thanks for the input. i notticed that in my /etc/fstab file
the first 2 entries are LABEL=/ and LABEL=/boot instead
of /dev/hda3 and /dev/hda2. will look into this volume
label business and try again. when i set up the partitions
on the second disk they showed as hdc3 and hdc2 and i
assumed this would sufficiently distinguish them from hda
partitions.
