dual boot laptop opens smoothly mp4 files in windows but not in linux

Hi everybody.
I recently bought a full H.D camcorder and try to open my videos (it saves them in mp4 format) in my dual boot laptop.
With Win7 64bit everything is ok.
With Ubuntu 11.04 64bit, sound is ok but video appears in frames every few seconds in all media players I tried (Movie Player, Gxine, Banshee, Kaffeine etc. Only with VLC video is continuous but appears somewhat "wavy". I have installed various codecs also but no help.
I am not quite sure if my VGA is properly installed, I have the well known issue "driver activated but not in use" but appears to be since I can open unity and lspci -v shows "Kernel driver in use: nvidia"
I really hate using windows and struggle to solve the problem. I suspect one of these reasons 1) Nvidia driver is not completely installed 2) Mp4 decoding is not properly done
Hardware info: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHZ, VGA GeForce GT 335M , memory 4GB
Any help would really be appreciated

One thing to check is whether you have libvdpau (hardware video acceleration) installed. To check whether you're using the NVIDIA drivers try nvidia-settings as it ought to give you the driver version. Afraid I can't help beyond that though.
