dual boot config

i tried to add a second hard drive to my system for a dual boot, however the iso would not reconize my drive at any config. can i use this drive as an external drive and boot linux via usb? if so how would i get the drive to be reconized?

Did you just add your hard drive to the PC. You might have to prepare the hard drive before the installer iso recognizes it. I atleast had to do that for my Western Digital hard drive.

As for usb booting...your bios needs to have support for booting via a usb drive. Start up your PC and enter your bios. Find out the area where the boot options are listed...the options must be listed there.

Come back here if you still have problems.

Does your computer recognize the hard drive during POST? You might not have it configured properly. Check your master/slave/cable-select setting. Also, check that your BIOS is configured to detect the drive (ie: make sure it's set to "Auto" instead of "Not Installed.")

Some dsitros with old kernels can recognise a Sata but all have no problem with IDE disks.

Thus check hardware connection first. The disk is good if it shows up is fdisk by a DOS floppy.
