Dual-boot
 
I have just finished installing MEPIS, but when I turn on my computer without the CD and it just continues with booting windows instead of prompting me whether I want to boot Linux or Windows.

Sounds as if you didn't install Grub to the MBR during the Mepis install. Pop the Mepis CD in and boot the live CD. There should be an option in the Mepis OS center to reinstall Grub. Make sure you install it to the MBR.
