Dual Boot


Hello, i have installed slackware on a partition and i have partitioned everything to my liking. Everything is installed fine and everything. Yet when i start my computer it just goesr straight to windows xp. Am i not supposed to have a lilo screen that tells me which OS i want to boot from??? Help me out plz. Thnx.

did you install slack after you installed xp? how did you setup LILO in the slack install? it sounds like LILO didn't install or something.

I installed slack after i installed winxp. And when it said wut install i wanted for lilo i did simple cuz i had no clue wut to do. But lets say it didn't install...can i install it from the cd? or something...

In Stall Win XP first, leaving 6 GB (approx.) unallocated space for linux Ful install.
boot to linux CDROM, choose to keep existing partitions and load on free space.
Make (keep) linux as the default MBR and edit text on others, ie. WinXP so they will be displayed in the lilo or grub loader as;
Linux
WinXp

you can probably install it still.

where did you install LILO to also?

this is all on one hard drive, right?

So u want me to boot from linux and not from winxp? or something...(dunno wut MBR means sry). And i installed lilo on my root (/).

yeah, install LILO to MBR (master boot record) when it asks.

you might also want to do an expert install of LILO to make sure winxp gets on there. just a few steps in expert:

make new header file (pretty self explanatory)
add linux partition
add windows partition
install LILO

so i don't want to do a full install again...how do i just install lilo from my cd? i can login as root and stuff but after that i dunno...

to answer your Q....

just type : #liloconfig

pick " expert " option, and you'll be fine....

Type #liloconfig where?? i can only log in as root using the boot cd...cuz it automatically boots winxp....can i do anything from there? cuz i tried the #liloconfig...nothing happened. thx for all the help so far though.

nevermind its all good...i made it boot from the linux partition and lilo just started up....thx guys!!!

boot to linux using your CD
at the prompt, login. you should come to this:

[root@localhost root]#
put in this command:
Code:
liloconfig
and follow the instructions in expert mode
