DSL Touchpad install

Wanted to try out Damn Small Linux and I've got a laptop with a touchpad on it. Interestingly, the touchpad woks /great/ off the live cd. No problems there. When I install to the hard drive and go through the X setup, however, I have to choose what kind of mouse I have (USB, ps2, com1-4), but no matter which I choose, the touchpad won't work.

What am I missing here? How does the live cd recognize it fine and none of the options work in X config?

Um
a hard drive full install or a frugal install?

I would think you could configure the xorg.conf in /etc/X11/

basically, copy the good/working xorg.conf setup from running livecd to your installed dsl.

You might also wanna check out the .xsession in /home/dsl too

Brilliant idea, but I can't get it to work. I've loaded up from the live cd, mounted the root directory, and did a diff on the files in /etc/X11 as well as the .x files in ~dsl on both systems. No differences.

There is no xorg.conf (did a find from root) anywhere on the system. I have a .Xdefaults, .xinitrc, and a .xserverrc in the ~dsl directory (again, no differences), and very little in /etc/X11 (X, Xresources, app-defaults, fonts, pwm, rgb.txt, rxvt.menu, and xsetup). The only diff shows up in the binary file .Xauthority

But the touchpad works perfectly in the livecd, and not at all in the hard drive install. I'm losing my mind!

Edit: I didn't answer your first question. It was a full hard drive install.

And just so I don't lose the nifty diff bash script for when I'll need it again in this thread:

Code:
for file in .*
do
   if [ -d "$file" ]
   then
      echo
   else
      diff $file ../../../
   fi
done
Didn't know how to make it recurse nicely without actually taking the time to perl it up, so I just changed directories and substituted the new location for the ../../../
