This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hello, I'm new to Linux Slackware using ver 13.1 installed ok, but not all is well. I'm trying to get a custom setup going for a nonprofit organization with cast off parts.
The parts are as follows. An ASUS board with I believe an AMD 2500+ processor, 2 1GB DDR chips and a 512MB DDR chip, A Nvidia GeForce 5200 128MB graphics card, a Dell 15"? monitor and an old Sharp Model XG-E670U 800X600 projector mfg date Feb 1997.
As I said the install went well the Dell monitor is connected to the DVI port on the graphics card and the Projector to the VGA port on the graphics card. I set the display to standard (Safest mode ) because of the projector. What is happening is while the computer is in basic text mode both the monitor and projector work fine but as soon as I start StartX to KDE the projector just starts this pretty pixilation pattern but I can still see the monitor just fine.
How can I fix it so that the projector and monitor can work with the following 3 options available? The same image at the same time? with the projector alone? or the Monitor alone?
As I said I’m new and will need step by step instruction on any fixes. Open this file (can be found at Y location) type in xyz Take into consideration I’m used to DOS, windows, and Macs. I’m not even sure how to open a terminal window inside KDE if it’s possible? Thank you for your time with this newbie.
Thank you for the input. The main reason for 13.1 vs 14.1 was I had a "purchased" copy of 13.1 that worked when the 14.1 ISO version I'd download didn't. Main issue still it getting that projector to work in KDE.
