Go to nvidia's internet site and see if they have drivers for your thing. They probably will. Are this diferrent from Ubuntu's things? Don't know but probably, being non-free.

Install said drivers following their instrutions. You may need kernel-headers package or linux-source package, called something like that.

Yes, you'll have to install the driver manually. I had to do so for my 9600. It's really easy, just follow the how-to.

9500 GT not in supported list

The 9500 GT does not appear in the list of supported GPUs.

Not very easy to sort this out for a beginner. Anyone know why this GPU appears to be orphaned?

Install nvidia-glx-envy-new from the repositories, it should now be supported.

I received an email from nividia saying that they are aware of the lack of support in the current driver for the 9500 GT, and that support will be in the next build.

The envy package manager - or whatever you call it - says that the card is unrecognised.
