Hi Barlie, welcome to the Linux world.

We need a little bit of information first:
1) what Fedora (I'm assuming 10)?
2) what is your wireless device?
3) are you able to connect the computer with Fedora to the internet or are you posting through another computer?
4) what are the actual problems, does the wireless driver not work at all or is it intermittent?

Although it can really seem difficult at first keep with it, you really will start to pick things up quickly. Also do not be afraid to ask any questions on this forum, no matter how simple or complex the problem someone will have an answer.

Hi!I have fedora 6,my friend give it to me 1 year ago and its working fine. The only problem i had now is i cannot connect to my router(Belkin) using my wireless device.I can connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable plug in to my network card.

Thank you very much for welcoming me here, this is my first time to use linux and i just hope i'll getting use to it.

Before anyone can help you, we need to know what wireless device you have.

If it's integrated, from the command line run

Code:

lspci
and copy/paste the output here.

If it's a USB adapter, run the command

Code:

lsusb
and copy/paste the output here.

Also, I would strongly suggest downloading and installing the latest version of Fedora. Lots more stuff works out of the box, and I don't believe Fedora 6 gets security updates anymore.

I am not a Fedora user, but if you are speaking about Fedora Core 6, that's damn old for a desktop box. This can be an issue, specially when it comes to drivers, and specially when it comes to relatively actual stuff like wireless devices. According to the wikipedia Fedora Core 6 was released in 2006, so it's like 3 years old.

I'd try a more up to date distro before anything else.

PS: Welcome, I hope you stay around for a long time :)

Well, there are lots of distros out there.

If you don't have any reason to use fedora, I suggest you to consider other options, I am not particularly fond on fedora. You can start by looking around in the suse, fedora, mandriva and ubuntu sites. Ubuntu is possibly the most popular distro amongst newcomers, but your likings might be different from the masses. You can also download livecds before installing, so you can get a taste of the distro before installing it.

Any up to date version of any of these distros should have more or less the same hardware support.

Although if you have a friend Locally that IS familiar with Fedora (he did give you the disc after all), that is familiar with the Distro of Linux you are running, and can help install and troubleshoot it, is a big PLUS in favor of stickling with Fedora too start out.

Just a thought.

Forums are great, but nothing beats help in person.
