Well. You don't need adobe reader. On ubuntu you will find evince reading pdfs by default. Things are different here. In ubuntu you can use Synaptic to install software. in the top bar go to system->administration->Synaptic package manager From there you will have tons of software. You need to be aware what you are looking for cause they are not the same ones as windows. You will have to find the equivalent for what you need to do so better google a bit first for the functions you want to do.
