Driver for DW1501 network card - Ubuntu
Hi all,
I have installed wubi inside windows7. My laptop is dell inspiron. I am not able to connect to internet via wifi. My network card is DW1501 and does not have a linux driver. The windows7 driver has 2 .sys and 3 .dll files and no .inf files. Thats why i cannot install ndiswrapper also. Any work around for this problem is highly appreciated. Thanks, John |
Hi john0887, Welcome to LQ. Please post the output of the following:

Looks like the 4313 card. I believe either of these drivers should work.

The first link worked. I am thrilled. Thank you very much.
However i do not know how to add it to boot process. Can you help me with that too. I am using ubuntu 10.04 |
You're Welcome, Glad it worked for you. I believe what you're looking for is detailed in the readme.

assistance
hi,
i'm having the same problem as john0887 and am also a complete novice and had never even looked at a Linux system before yesterday. i too can download the driver but the readme file makes absolutely no sense to me what-so-ever. can anyone help??? here's where i'm (first) experiencing difficulties - the readme file says: Quote:

basically (as maybe now is obvious) i need a complete walk-through of every step of getting this problem sorted. sorry to be so useless but i'll pick everything up over time but for now any/all assistance would be massively appreciated. cheers, gairy. |
Hi gairym, Welcome to LQ. What Distribution are you using? If it is Ubuntu, please post the output from the following.
Code:
$ sudo lspci -v | grep -i net |
Peacedog,
thanks for the response - here's the output: Quote:

thanks again. gairy. |
You'll need to activate the restricted packages repository and then install the bcmwl packages. Then you should be able to use the STA drivers for your card. This method should be much easier than try to package and install the source yourself.
Good luck. ;-) |
Peacedog,

sorry to be a pain but i really need every single step explaining to me. thanks, gairy. |
i've had another techie suggest that i simply buy another wireless card for the laptop (one that is naturally supported by Ubuntu) - do you think that this is the best option or do you think that this problem is solvable....?
|
Using another card is completely your choice, but we should be able to get this card working. There is a how to here that is pretty much step by step for Ubuntu. If you have any questions during any of the steps, just come back here and we'll see if we can sort it.
Good luck. ;-) |
In the tutorial above you'll be looking at the portion for the STA drivers.
Good luck. ;-) |
ok, let's stick with trying to fix it for now (as i'm both stubborn and cheap).
i went through the tutorial and came unstuck after this part: Quote:

either way when i go to the Additional Drivers and attempt to activate the Broadcom STA wireless driver i get this message: Quote:
