Drive reading CDs but not DVDs in 9.10

Hi. I just installed linux for the first time a few days ago and already made this post in this forum regarding another problem.

My problem is that when I insert a CD into my drive then it will recognize it and show it in my desktop, yet if I insert a DVD then it won't show it. I've tried both data DVDs and movies but neither one works.

Any help would be apprecieated.

are you sure its a dvd drive and not like a cd-rw ?

I'm completely sure it is. This computer used to have Windows XP and I used it to watch a DVD just last week.
