Dream to start a Company using Open Source Software

Hi Linux
I dreamt of being an inventor and building my very own company from my ideas, but never knowing what to make. Than I thought of poaching, have been doing research on Rhino Poaching and the ways of Stoping poaching but all are not efficient. So I was determined to find a way of stopping it. Than I thought of Building a Radio Control Airplane only to find out that they have already thought and have implemented it in Game Reserves, I throw the towel and gave up until my uncle told me by improving what is already the is inventing. So that's what I did. Well so far only plwnning.
Sorry for the long story but what I was curious about is since Linux is open source and building and programming this project, I need open source does this mean the whole world has to know my specifications of the build so that they can replicate it because if so than I cant make a business out of it and I don't want poaches to know.

Hi,

Maybe looking at the licensing for most Gnu/Linux & Open Source;

GNU - Information/GPL - Information]
The section above is from SlackwareŽ-Links
Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

Sadly poaching will continue as long as there is some demand. Unless you stop the demand, you won't stop poaching. Like illegal drugs, demand fuels supply.

Hi...

Welcome to the forum :)

Could you give us more details of what you are wanting to do and how it involves Linux?

If we're just talking about selling a program that is GPL'd, from what I understand, if you are looking to sell a program that you wrote, you can legally do that but you will also need to make the source code available to anyone who wishes to obtain a copy. Anyone can take your program and modify it (or not) and then give it away for free. If you desire to keep your program from being legally "copyable," then the GPL is not the way to go.

A copy of the GPL3 can be found here.

Regards...
