drag-drop copying and cp command both hang at last few KB when copying to flash drive
Using nautilus or terminal, when I copy a file TO the flash drive (drag&drop or cp -r, respectively) it works fine up to the last few kb worth of data. In terminal, I hit ctrl+c to cancel the operation and it doesn't register, it still just hangs. In nautilus I hit the cancel button, and it doesn't register, it still just hangs. So I force quit the applications (pkill [service]), and then try to unmount the device (umount -f /dev/sdb1) and it kicks back an error saying the device is in use. Even trying to log out it just holds up the system entirely and won't log out. I have to force-shutdown (hold power button for 5secs).
I have no idea what's causing this. Can anyone offer some insight?
SYS: Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.32-50 (please don't tell me to just upgrade the kernel and try again, that's a future project which will require several hours).
Thanks for the help everyone!
