Drag & drop from archive to a movie player

On windows it is possible to drag&drop a movie from WinRar archive straight into a movie player. Behind the scenes the movie is extracted into a temporary directory and loaded into a movie player. Is it possible to set this in a similar fashion on Linux? I'm using Linux Mint + KDE + Ark + SMPlayer.

Thanks!

hi, its really a waste of time compressing audio/video files since the codec compresses it fairly efficiently:
Code:
[schneidz@hyper bb]$ du -h breaking-bad-37-*
458M	breaking-bad-37-bullet-points-bak.mkv.bz2
466M	breaking-bad-37-bullet-points.mkv
i tried to drag-and-drop from file-roller to vlc and i did not work.

hey schneidz, it might be waste of time compressing audio/video files, but I'm not the one doing that...
It's probably not that much extra work to extract file to the directory and then drag and drop it to a movie player, but when done really often it gets annoying;/

drag-and-drop does not work for me with file-roller but any reason you just cant double-clik on the file inside the archive. for me it just pops up in vlc (or whatever the default video player is) although it takes a while to extract.

you can , but " why the bleep do you want a rar'ed video ??????
that makes very little scene , videos ARE compressed already

now a tar of a archive ? maybe ?

but it can be done ( why one would ???? )
kde and 7z do it just fine if smplayer is the default player for the format
gmplayer and mplayer should also work

but again why rar them

Quote:
drag&drop a movie from WinRar archive straight
There is NO FORMAT called "winrar" !!!!!!!!!!!
That dose NOT exist , it never did and never will !

winrar is the Windows GUI for the RAR format
and NOT the format

JohnVV: I've never said that there is a format called WinRar - I was just describing the behaviour of WinRar program on Windows.
Also as I mentioned before I don't compress videos, but other people sometimes do. Also rar was only an example, I just want to be able to drag & drop from any archiver to SMPlayer...

schneidz: I could double-click, but then I will have the same problem if I wanted to drag and drop subtitles from Ark(or any other archiver) to movie player:/
