Unhappy Downloading driver for Lexmark

Hi, My os is Fedora 14 - 64bit.
I'm trying to download and install a driver from Lexmark. I get the download into the square box in the top left hand corner of the monitor. then right click on it to open. I then get a message saying "Command Line Output. gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file /bin/gtar: unexpected eof in archive /bin/gtar: errpr is not recoverable: exiting now.

I tried several times to get past this problem and just once managed to get the file info and drag it into the terminal. (I'm sorry I can't remember how this happened, I'd been clicking about for some time). There I used yum to install, which seemed to be ok, until the last line, and that said "Process/usr/libexec/gvfsd-archive was killed by signal 6 (sigabrt)"
That's it, it did not install and I am puzzled.
Can anyone help please.

Can you post the model of the printer? Are you sure this is a linux driver? Lexmark is notorious for non-support of linux.

A link to the file would help also.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: Follow these steps only if your printer is listed in the Linux Home Office and SMB Products compatibility page.

A. RUNNING THE GUI INSTALLER SCRIPT FROM THE TERMINAL
Open up your favorite terminal (xterm, konsole, gnome-terminal, etc)
Extract the zip file
Use the following command to install the driver
RPM-based distros:
# ./lexmark-inkjet-[xx]-driver-[x.x.x]..amd64.rpm.sh
Follow the instruction in the installation screen.

B. RUNNING THE GUI INSTALLER SCRIPT
Do not attach the printer via USB to the Linux machine.
Extract the zip file.
For RPM-based systems: lexmark-inkjet-[xx]-driver-[x.x.x].amd64.deb.sh
Run the installer script file by double-clicking on the file icon and then click the ""Run in Terminal"" button or run the script file via command-line.
Follow the instructions in the installer screen.
These are the posted instructions. Did you follow them?

I downloaded the file, and am not able to extract it. Nice of Lexmark not to post the command to extract the file. If you can not extract the file, it won't install. I would suggest you contact Lexmark, and get their help to extract the archive. I suspect their is something wrong with this archive.

The command I used was
Quote:
tar -xvzf lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.sh.tar.gz
I also tried the gui program Ark. It works on any other .tar.gz file I have used it on.

Other things that are not clear to me, is this archive going to install JRE ? Or is that a pre-req? I have JRE installed, so I know that is not the failure on extraction.

For the record, this is what happens on my system when I run the command.

Quote:
tar -xvzf lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.sh.tar.gz
lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.sh

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
and a ls command...

Quote:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 cliff users 41456128 Aug 6 08:09 lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.sh*
-rw-r--r-- 1 cliff users 41458133 Aug 6 07:41 lexmark-inkjet-legacy-wJRE-1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.sh.tar.gz
I can view the .rpm.sh file, it doesn't look too large. However, the file size indicates it huge. Don't understand at all. Over to Lexmark...

Update, downloaded the file again. Same results when I try to extract the file(s).

Yes, I have followed the installation instructions to the letter.
The command I used was tar zxvf -wJRE-1.0-1.x86_64.rpm.sh.tar.gz

I also got the same result ie gzip:stdin:unexpected end of file etc---.

I have got a installation command but that doesn't work either, it is:
# lexmark-inkjet-[xx]-driver-[x.x.x]..amd64.rpm.sh

I'll go back to Lexmark and double check everything.

Thank you for your support.
